Tips for Taking Product Photos for your Business Using your Ring Light

Want to make your products SHINE in photos? We went live on both Amazon & TikTok with Brand Photographer Desiree Hayes of Desiree Hayes Photography. She shared some simple tips to create those glowing product shots and on a budget, check them out below!

1. Find the Perfect Backdrop

The first step in creating glowing product photos is to choose an appropriate backdrop. Opt for a clean and uncluttered background that complements your product's aesthetics. A solid color or a gradient backdrop can create a beautiful contrast, making your product pop. We used scrap booking paper from the Dollar Tree and for those that want to spend more we suggest using this product backdrop.

2. Lighting is the key to that radiant look

Desiree’s biggest tip is lighting. “Lighting is key to a good photo.” LITTIL lights such as the Selfie Mini and the Selfie One can really help with creating a radiant look for your product photos, you can even use two different types of lighting at the same time or add on an additional Selfie One for more light!

3. Get Your Gear Right

Use a good camera or even a smartphone with manual settings. And don't forget the tripod like the RISE to keep things steady and sharp.

4. Get Creative!

Desiree says “Don’t be afraid to experiment with different angles and compositions to find the one that best showcases your product.” Play with Angles Experiment with different angles and perspectives. Centered or a bit off-center? Your choice!

5. Accessorize with Props and Styling

Add some props or other items that complement your product. Mirrors or glass can create cool reflections, for our live we used small mirrors from the Dollar Tree.

6. Practice, Practice, Practice

Don't be disheartened if you don't get it right away. The more you practice, the better you'll become.

“Show up and shine, that is what is most important as a you build an audience.”  - Desiree Hayes

7. Keep It Consistent

If you're snapping a bunch of products, make sure they all look consistent. Same lighting, background, and style – it looks more professional.

Business Tip:  “The greatest advice I can give to a small business owner as they are starting is to use what they have on hand; see what you have readily available, what small purchases you can make to have the basics, and stop making excuses.” Founder Desiree of Desiree Hayes Photographer

So there you have it! With a bit of practice and these tricks up your sleeve, you'll soon be snapping those GLOWING product photos like a pro. Happy shooting!
